Cookie Policy

Last updated: 20 July 2026 · BorrowLocal (UK)

1. What this covers

This policy explains how BorrowLocal uses cookies and similar technologies (such as session storage) when you use our website. It sits alongside our Privacy policy.

2. Essential cookies only (MVP)

For this MVP we use essential cookies and session data only — the ones needed to make the site work. We do not currently use advertising or analytics cookies that profile you across the web.

  • Session / auth — keeps you signed in and remembers your login state securely
  • Security — helps protect accounts and prevent misuse of forms and sessions
  • Basic preferences — may store short-lived UI state needed for the product to function

3. Why we use them

Without these essential cookies, you would not be able to stay signed in, manage listings, complete bookings, or use order chat reliably. They are used on the basis that they are necessary for the service you request.

4. How long they last

Session cookies typically expire when you close your browser or when your signed-in session ends. Some auth-related cookies may last for a limited period so you do not have to sign in every visit. Exact durations depend on your browser settings and our session configuration.

5. Managing cookies

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you disable essential cookies, parts of BorrowLocal (including sign-in) may not work. There is no separate “cookie opt-in” banner for essential-only use in this MVP.

6. Changes

If we add non-essential cookies in future (for example analytics), we will update this policy and, where required, ask for your consent. Questions: see our Contact page.
