1. Who we are
BorrowLocal is a marketplace that helps neighbours list items for short-term borrowing and find things to borrow nearby. We are not the owner of listed items and we are not a party to the rental agreement between lister and borrower, except where these terms say otherwise.
2. Your account & trust checks
You must be 18 or over and provide accurate information. We may ask you to verify your email, phone number, address, and photo ID. Listings only go live after photo ID is checked. Borrowers can pay first; we only connect you to the lister after photo ID is checked. Providing false identity information may lead to suspension.
3. Listings
Listing is free. You must own (or have the right to lend) each item, describe it honestly, and set fair prices and availability. You must not list illegal, dangerous, or counterfeit goods. We may remove listings that breach these terms.
4. Bookings & payments
All rentals must be paid through BorrowLocal using the payment methods we offer. Off-platform or cash payments for bookings made here are not allowed and may void marketplace protections. Paying or accepting payment outside the platform for a BorrowLocal booking is a breach of these terms.
5. Platform protection fee (not insurance)
On successful rentals, listers pay a platform fee. This helps BorrowLocal cover operational costs and limited replacement support where borrower damage is verified under our process. This is not regulated insurance. Optional extra cover may be offered separately for an additional fee. Nothing in these terms guarantees full replacement value.
6. Handover codes & damage window
Collection and return are confirmed with unique codes generated by BorrowLocal. After return, the lister has 24 hours to report damage beyond normal wear and tear. If no report is made in time, the rental may be treated as completed without damage.
7. Messaging
Keep rental communication inside BorrowLocal's order chat. Do not use the platform to arrange off-platform payments or to harass others. We may review messages where needed for safety or disputes.
8. Reviews
Reviews must be honest and based on your rental. Fake or abusive reviews may be removed.
9. Liability
BorrowLocal provides the marketplace tools. Listers and borrowers are responsible for the condition, safe use, and lawful lending of items. To the fullest extent permitted by UK law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss. Nothing excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
10. Ending access
We may suspend or close accounts that breach these terms, harm other users, or put the marketplace at risk.
11. Changes & contact
